The Book Works, in partnership with the Coalition Supporting Young Adults, invites the community to a day-long conference on ways to support Louisville’s high school-age learners as they re-start their path to graduation. The conference is part of a collaborative, community-wide initiative to re-engage and support Louisville’s young people to reach their education goals.

Conference Information

Who should attend the Education Advocacy Conference?

Anyone interested in supporting the education goals of youth and young adults should attend, including educators, staff of community organization, local and state leaders, parents, court and foster care social workers, community outreach and peer support specialists, high school and college student services, and young people.

What will participants learn?

The conference will offer general and breakout sessions on the knowledge and skill areas offered by The Book Works’ Education Advocacy training:

– Factors in Education Disengagement
– Advocacy Essentials and Best Practices
– Academic Options and Student Supports
– Navigating Systems
– Collaborating for System Change

What is available at the conference?

– Information on school and community services for high school age learners.
– Workshops to build advocacy skills.
– Transcript review by JCPS school counselors (3:30p to 5:30p).
– Free books and school supplies.
– Breakfast & lunch catered by Garden Girl Foods.

What is the conference agenda?

The conference will highlight the importance of re-engaging young people with a path to high school graduation and lift up the programs and supports currently available in Louisville. Session Topics and Presenters

OPENING SESSION

System-level factors contributing to education disconnection, presented by youth and young adult leaders.

BREAKOUT SESSIONS

Learn tools and resources to help  advocates and young people to set strengths-based goals, navigate systems, and find education options and supports.

CALL TO ACTION

Wrap up the day inspired to work together to support high school age learners who are off course to graduation.

RESOURCE FAIR

The Un-Pause Your Education resource fair provides young people with tons of information on the pathways to graduation and supports to help them succeed.
